The Short Stories
The Fantastic Tale of the Milliner and the Cat
This was the first story I had accepted for publication. It was written about two of my favorite things, hats and my cat, Ms Fay. Amongst my friends and family she was often referred to as the meanest cat in New York City. I prefer to think of her as misunderstood. She died in 2010 and I still miss her. The Milliner and the Cat was included in the anthology Twisted Cat Tales. The book is no longer in print. If you are interested in a reprint or would like to republish the story please contact me at ginny@ginnygilroy.com.
The Secret Life of Jane Gray
In the middle of writing Dellwood I needed a break from the novel and decided to write a short story...but seriously who am I kidding? It was really Jane loosing patience with waiting. She made her first appearance in the Barren Worlds anthology, still available at Amazon.com. Currently, Jane and I are hashing out the novel in what I hope and Jane insists, will be the first in a series of three.
False Ascent
This is the little story that could (not). It has been accepted for publication twice, and both times the project was canceled. This story was inspired by my first snorkel trip to Looe Key National Marine sanctuary in the Florida Keys. I knew I wanted to write a short story around the experience but I didn’t know how it would be either horrific or scientific, and then I met Major Claire Billings. The story will be included in the Through the Wormhole anthology, if the project ever gets picked up again.
The Real Thing
After reading World War Z, I had to take my shot at a zombie story. The challenge for a genre writer is to add something unique to the pile. I think Betty fits the bill. The Real Thing is included the Dead Souls Anthology. It can be purchased in the format of your choice from your favorite bookseller, or at Amazon.com
